Artist Anne ten Ham makes a powerful, edible statement on the Zeedijk in Oudeschild on Texel. ‘The water is coming’, is written in large letters in the grass. The work is not there for long: the sheep eat it again. Tomorrow evening it will be gone again, the artist predicts.
‘The water butt’, uh, ‘comes’, of about 80 by 10 meters, can be clearly seen from the air. “A mistake was made at the N, but unfortunately you can no longer stick grass on it,” laughs ten Ham.
The sheep didn’t wait a moment and have already started gnawing at the text that refers to rising sea levels. “The message is clear, and that’s what it’s all about. All oceans are connected, so in the long run the sea level will also rise here, although that is still minimal at the moment,” she explains.
The work is part of Klifhanger, an art manifestation in Den Hoorn.
