Artist Jan Sierhuis has passed away. The man, who was considered one of our most important modern painters, has reached the age of 94.
In 2018 he was a guest in the NH program ‘Iconen’. There he says that the great crisis of 1929 is still fresh in his memory. At that time he left his parental home and went on his own two feet. He painted the city center of Amsterdam and sold his work on the spot.
“It was always a hit when I stood there. People asked: ‘Is that artist for sale?’ Then I asked fifty bucks for it, or a hundred. I sold one painting after another,” Sierhuis says to NH Iconen.
