At this week’s Google I/O event, the technology giant Google announced a slew of changes to its services. According to the press release, the main theme of the reforms is artificial intelligence, and bringing it to a significant part of Google’s services.
– With the latest developments, the use of generative artificial intelligence has begun to shape the way we create, connect and collaborate, CEO of Google Sundar Pichai told the company on the blog.
The most significant innovation is the artificial intelligence tool called Duet AI coming to Google’s cloud services. With this, the response to e-mails will be faster. Artificial intelligence gives a suggestion as an answer based on the previous message thread.
– You can ask the artificial intelligence to write an answer, for example, in a situation where your flight has been canceled and you want full compensation instead of a refund coupon offered by the airline, states Pichai.
The service will also be available in the mobile version of e-mail. Google did not answer Iltalehti’s questions about how the EU data protection regulation, GDPR, has been taken into account in the reforms.
Updates to other cloud services as well
The same artificial intelligence will also be used in Google’s Slides presentation program, the table program in Sheets, the video call program in Meets and the word processing program in Docs.
Artificial intelligence is supposed to make it easier, for example, to take pictures to support presentations, organize data in tables, change the background image of video calls, and ask artificial intelligence to write a piece of text for you.
An update is also coming to the Google Maps map application, which enables the street view to be more realistic. According to Pichai, the map application will also have more detailed information about air quality, traffic jams and weather.
In addition, editing photos using artificial intelligence will become possible. In this case, for example, the cropping of the image can be changed outside the image with the help of artificial intelligence.
The company was not yet able to comment on how the artificial intelligence regulation coming into force in the EU will change the quality of services.
For the time being, the company has a waiting list to introduce artificial intelligence reforms, based on which the company aims to bring its service to different countries. You can sign up for the waiting list from the link at the bottom of the blog.
