Tom Hanks and Robin Wright played lovers in 1994’s Forrest Gump. For the first time in almost 30 years, they will be seen together again on screen for the new Hollywood film “Here” – digitally rejuvenated thanks to modern technology. Directed by Robert Zemeckis based on the screenplay by Eric Roth – as with “Forrest Gump”. In addition to artificial intelligence, the actors Paul Bettany and Kelly Reilly are also on board.
Forrest Gump reviewed:
“Here” is based on the graphic novel by Richard McGuire and takes place in New England: first in the wilderness, later in a house.
AI can do what Zemeckis wants: hyper-realistic technologies
In the new film, director Zemeckis wants to use new, hyper-realistic technologies, including AI-generated face replacements and “de-aging” (rejuvenation), as reported by Variety. This is intended to give actors the opportunity to tell stories that span multiple generations and even centuries. The first notable de-aging used in a Hollywood film was in Martin Scorsese’s 2019 The Irishman. Robert de Niro and Al Pacino were digitally rejuvenated – with the disconcerting result that while both had smooth faces, they still moved within their older bodies.
Known AI examples:
A dancing crow
The short film “The Crow” by artist Glenn Marshall: It was based on a Dance video uploaded to Youtubethat Marshall inserted “CLIP” into the neural network. The AI should then “convert each frame into a painting of a crow in a desolate landscape. It was reassembled into a new video of a dancing crow, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Short Film Festival.” “GameStar” reported.

Colorful shots from black and white centuries
AI can also colorize black and white images from other centuries. This can be seen, for example, on Denis Shiryaev’s YouTube channel:
A dead person speaks entire dialogues thanks to AI
The documentary Roadrunner (2021) about Anthony Bourdain featured AI-generated dialogue from the late socialite. The AI had produced this dialogue; Hollywood had led to some discussions about ethics.
