Just a six-year-old British boy Arthur Labinjo-Hughes died violently in June 2020.
His father was also convicted of the act Thomas Hughes that the father’s spouse Emma Tustin. They had a child in their care the BBC before her death, she was repeatedly beaten, denied food and drink, and forced to stand alone for hours in the Tustin home where Thomas Hughes and Arthur had moved. Also, Arthur was poisoned with salt.
The real death blows came from Tustin. He shook the small schoolboy aggressively and repeatedly hit his head against the hard surface. Arthur had no chance of survival.
Although Hughes was not present, he was complicit as he was deemed to have encouraged acts of violence against his son.
In Discovery+’s new documentary The Murder of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes covers the trials of Thomas Hughes and Emma Tustin, where their gruesome deeds were revealed within weeks. Arthur’s background is also reviewed. The child had been taken into his father’s custody after his mother Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow had been arrested for killing his own spouse.

British publication of the Guardian according to the relatives’ concern about Arthur arose when the boy moved in with his father’s wake to his new girlfriend Emma Tustin. Hughes’ mother, and Arthur’s grandmother, Joanne Hughes made a child protection report about Arthur in April and tried to get her son to leave Arthur in her care. Thomas Hughes refused. Also, Arthur’s uncle Daniel Hughes contacted the police. The school was also informed about the situation in April 2020. Two months later, Arthur had died.
Emma Tustin and Thomas Hughes were convicted of Arthur’s murder and manslaughter in December 2021. Tustin is serving a 29-year prison sentence. Hughes’ sentence increased to 24 years a year ago in the summer. After Arthur’s death, in Great Britain there has been a call for the authorities to be held accountable in cases of ill-treated children.
