In Germany, more wool is being produced again and in a fair manner. A new documentary by the Franco-German broadcaster Arte shows how this works.
For a long time, wool from Europe could no longer compete in price with cheaper alternatives from other regions of the world. Even the fur of slaughtered sheep was often simply disposed of because of the high processing costs. Now pioneers are working on producing wool in Germany again.
The new raw material for the locally produced wool and clothing does not only come from domestic sheep breeding. They also experiment with dog hair, old woolen sweaters and pineapple fibers.
The 31-minute documentary “Re: Faire Wool – New Paths in the Textile Industry”, which can be seen in the Arte media library until August 30th, shows more about the revival of wool production.
