Art photo with 22 grandmothers auctioned for 6,000 euros
One of the grandmothers is Georgette Dujardin from Roeselare. But maybe posing for a modern interpretation of Da Vinci’s The Last Supper is a bit of a strange experience? “Why do you have to feel strange? Everyone can see me with my beautiful hair. I’m really satisfied with that. And I would still do it. There are still West Flanders here, right. My friend is also from West Flanders .”
In addition to the grannies, an alien, a blind pianist, a monk and three waiters also figure in the photo. And of course the dog, who is also invited to the unveiling. The table of The Last Supper is littered with ancient objects. Artist Steven Thoelen is fascinated by stories from the past. “My grandmother still tells me a lot. And I can imagine that someone who no longer gets those stories from older people, that it does something to you if you miss that.”
The photo is auctioned and goes to the highest bidder, a gallery owner from Antwerp, who pays 6,000 euros for it. The money will go to the Alzheimer Liga, which is committed to people with dementia.
