Art Factory Córdoba presents Carmen Buteler, protagonist of the Cordovan art scene

Carmen, what made you turn to painting?

The need to have their own activity that was compatible with being the mother of 4 children. I found in Art the possibility of communicating with people and making myself feel good personally, without neglecting my children.

Within the wide variety of plastic arts techniques that you dedicate yourself to, which is your favorite and why?

I would say that the mixture of techniques: Textile, Painting and Lithography. I love all three and can use them simultaneously. The textile allows me to represent the fabric of life. Painting allows me to discover a new color each time, which is always a surprise. The lithography reflects the nobility of the stone. That nobility of which human beings should never forget.

What did you learn on your long journey as an artist?

The most important thing is that, although one is the creator of each work, the work loses meaning if it is not disseminated and made available to people. Art is a means of communication, as is music, literature, and dance. For which I am convinced that it is very important to carry out various actions in order to be able to bring art closer to people and it is their feedback that allows me to continue growing in my creation task.

Tell us a bit about your book launch.

I would say that the book is the result of that constant search in my work, in terms of themes and techniques. During the pandemic, the way I found to continue communicating with my peers was through virtual meetings. That’s how in a chat with Carla Rey this proposal came up that scared me at one point but I found it very interesting.

That’s how I started working with a work team. Carla as editorial director, Rodrigo Alonso, wrote the curatorial text, Edgardo Malan graphic designer, Gustavo Lowry photographer, Alicia Di Stasio proofreader, Marcos Bettolli. Translator, Akian Grafica editor. It was a very enriching experience to analyze my work chronologically from the year 85 to date. Finding works from 37 years ago and seeing how they dialogue with each other regardless of the date, theme or technique used. The book is currently on sale in bookstores throughout the country, including: El Ateneo, Splendid, Tematika, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and Proa.

What advice would you give to young or emerging artists?

That they are constant, the path of Art has its rewards although they are not always economic, but it is worth going through. Art is carried in the soul, you have to work responsibly and conscientiously and things happen like in any other work activity. Art is Life.
