Outdoor exhibition Into Nature will be established in the summer of 2023 in the vicinity of Drouwen and Exloo. During the biennial art expedition, artworks by national and international artists will be on display in the area. Walking and cycling routes lead visitors past the works of art. The fourth edition is titled ‘Time Horizons’.
Artistic director Hilde de Bruijn chose the area because of the many traces that time has left in the landscape. “In the Borger-Odoorn area on the Drentse Hondsrug, the story of the earth is clearly written in the landscape. It can be seen in the form of the hills that were created in a unique way for Europe during the penultimate Ice Age. It is also falling off can be read by the salt domes under the Drouwenerzand, where the sea was long ago. When you let this landscape sink in, you realize that everything is temporary.”
Unlike the previous editions of Into Nature, this time a program will precede the exhibition. Activities are already being organized next year. The organization wants to work together with residents and local associations. De Bruijn: “We have already made an extensive introductory round in Borger-Odoorn and we are received very warmly.”
Into Nature wants to connect artworks to characteristics of the Drenthe landscape and current, social issues. Previously there were exhibitions in the Bargerveen, Frederiksoord and the Drentsche Aa area.
