A one-of-a-kind Ayrton Senna art car will be an attraction at the upcoming Formula 1 race at Imola before being auctioned later in the year. McLaren’s repainted show car is part of an art project called “Senna Now”.
One side of the car consists of three of the most iconic liveries of Senna’s Formula 1 career: the black and gold Lotus, Williams’ Rothmans livery and the McLaren in Marlboro livery.
The other side has been left to French street artist Jisbar, who has taken the life and career of the three-time Formula 1 world champion as inspiration.
The Senna art car is the brainchild of Italian fashion designer Matteo Macchiavelli, who used to follow the Brazilian’s career: “I spent my childhood following my hero’s races and magic. I was drawn to his lifestyle and his teachings inspired, which are still with me now that I’m older.”
“Thanks to my family friend Angelo Orsi, I took many photos with Ayrton, which are now part of my family book and my personal history and have stuck in my memory,” said Macchiavelli.
“Ayrton Senna’s charisma, his personality, all the challenges he faced and his humanity inspired me and many other people so much that I started to imagine how you could create something that would have some of the aspects the special message that he was able to convey and brings to the fore: challenge, creativity and humanity.”
Collector provides car
The car was provided by Italian collector Gianluca Tramonti and will be on display at the Ayrton Senna Museum at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. It will also appear again at the Formula 1 races in Miami and Monaco and will also be exhibited at art events in Venice and Miami.
The plan is to auction the car and give a portion of the proceeds to the Ayrton Senna Foundation. Alongside the car, Jisbar will also design a special NFT collection of “Senna Now” which will be coined in three stages during Formula 1 weekends at Imola, Miami and Monaco.
