Small fee for Gunners
Arsenal FC have signed Brazilian attacking talent Marquinhos from Sao Paulo FC. As the “Gunners” announced, the 19-year-old right winger has signed a long-term contract. According to “O Globo”, the Londoners paid around 3.5 million euros for the former U17 international – half of his market value last received in early April.
The fact that São Paulo are satisfied with the comparatively low fee could be due to a FIFA passage that only allows players under the age of 18 to sign three-year contracts. However, clubs rarely stick to it, as Transfermarkt recently learned from Bundesliga circles in the case of Hertha youth player Lukas Ullrich (18), whom Borussia Mönchengladbach wants to sign. In a legal dispute, the player would probably be right – Marquinhos had signed his first professional contract, which is valid until the end of 2024, as a 16-year-old in July 2019.
