Those who cause nuisance on the bus will have to pay a hefty fine in the next three months. Arriva is starting a pilot in all buses in Brabant in which an amount of 313 euros will be immediately recovered from travelers who cause nuisance. The amount is independent of any fine from the judiciary.
It is Safety Week and that is the starting signal for Arriva to improve safety in Brabant buses. “We are starting with a three-month pilot. Our Service and Safety employees will speak to those who cause nuisance and if a report is filed, the perpetrator will have to pay a fine of 313 euros,” says Tineke Witteveen, spokesperson for Arriva.
Normally, troublemakers only pay a fine if this is imposed by the judiciary. The costs of handling an incident are still borne by the transport company. During the pilot, Arriva can recover damages directly from the perpetrator. The compensation of 313 euros has been determined by the Service Organization for Direct Liability (SODA) with which Arriva collaborates. This amount does not include direct damage due to, for example, destruction or damage.
There are stickers on all buses in Brabant to warn potential nuisance offenders and fare dodgers about the fine. According to Arriva, the sticker shows that nuisance and incidents are not accepted.
