Arrest murder suspect shocks neighborhood: ‘He was pressed to the ground’

It is the talk of the town on Wednesday morning in the Borgerhoutlaan in Eindhoven: 56-year-old Enrico V. was arrested there on Tuesday in connection with a double murder. He has lived in that street, in the Woensel district, for about sixteen years. Neighbors can hardly comprehend that he is now suspected of a murder.

On Tuesday morning, around eleven o’clock, the street was startled by officers who pushed Enrico V. to the ground in front of his house. He was arrested because he may have been involved in a double murder in Geistingen, Flanders, just across the border near Weert. According to the newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen, he would have killed his ex-girlfriend and her cousin.

Normally nothing ever happens in and around the Borgerhoutlaan, according to the residents it is always quiet there. Most are therefore shocked by what happened in front of them the previous morning. “There were police here all day, unbelievable,” says a neighbor across the street. “I was watching from my garden. You don’t experience this every day.”

“He was pressed to the ground by the police.”

The residents in the street knew Enrico V., but not very well. The man would live alone and have his own business. “Not everyone in the street is close to each other. When you meet each other you have a short chat, that’s it”, another resident knows. She also sometimes had a chat with the man who is now suspected of a double murder. “He always came across as very friendly. I never expected anything like that from him, I’m really in shock.”

A woman who lives a few doors down from Enrico V. agrees. “When I arrived here yesterday, he was pushed to the ground by the police. He always seemed like such a nice man, so I really didn’t look for that after him.”

“We used to see his ex-girlfriend around, it always seemed to go well between them.”

He would have his own company, a garage in Best. The local residents describe him as friendly as well as a hardworking man. That he is suddenly suspected of a double murder raises many questions. “He was always very nice and worked hard. I never wanted this behind him. But he’s only a suspect, so it may also be that he didn’t do it. You don’t know,” says a man who doors away.

The victims of the murder, who were found on Tuesday, are said to be his ex-girlfriend, the Dutch Marly S., and her cousin. They were killed by force. A resident says she has seen his ex-girlfriend in the street. “When they were still in a relationship, we saw her around here, of course. It always seemed to go well between them. But of course you don’t know what’s going on in someone’s mind.” It is not clear whether this is the victim or another ex-girlfriend of the suspect.

This is how it went on Tuesday morning in the Borgerhoutlaan:
