According to the police, the man was arrested last Tuesday due to the attention paid to the robbery in Opsporing Verzocht and the Belgian Investigation Program Faroek. France has been requested to surrender the suspect to the Netherlands.
In Opsporing Verzocht a reconstruction was made of the robbery at Schöne Edelmetaal. A Brink’s valuable transport car was robbed at the company on Meeuwenlaan in Amsterdam-Noord. The robbers fired into the air with automatic weapons. Inside, company employees were tied up.
The perpetrators fled with booty of millions to the nearby village of Broek in Waterland, pursued by the police. A 47-year-old French robber was eventually killed in a meadow there and six others were immediately arrested. After that, more suspects were arrested in Belgium and France, among other places.
