Arnout Hauben is the uncrowned king of ratings of the Low Countries | TV

TVNobody lures so many viewers to the screen these days as Arnout Hauben (46). With his new series ‘Dwars door de Lage Landen’, the TV maker receives more than a million viewers in both Flanders and the Netherlands.

“This is by far the best TV program of the past 10 years”, “Brilliant”, “The best TV program of the moment”, “What did we do to deserve this?”. These are just a few of the reactions that Dutch viewers have about Arnout Hauben’s latest travel series ‘Dwars door de Lage Landen’. And that is also felt in the viewing figures.

Million viewers

This week Hauben reached 1.18 million live viewers on NPO2, making it the most watched program of the day after ‘Het Journaal’. And in the past few weeks, Hauben always clocked over a million. Special, because added with the episodes to one – also more than a million each time – Hauben thus gets more than two million viewers every week.

‘Dwars door de Lage Landen’ is the first series by Hauben that was co-financed by the Dutch broadcaster VPRO. This commitment is no coincidence, because in the past ‘Around the North Sea’ and ‘Dwars door de Mediterranean Sea’ also scored very well above the national border. “The Dutch like our soft, reserved approach instead of the presence that Dutch presenters often have”, Arnout previously explained that success.
