After the season
Arne Friedrich will stop as sports director at Hertha BSC after this season. The 42-year-old former national player does not want to extend his contract with the capital club. This was announced by the “Old Lady” on Tuesday at a press conference and on her website.
Friedrich was hired in November 2019 as a so-called performance manager by the then coach Jürgen Klinsmann. In July 2020 he was promoted to sports director. “The past two and a half years have been very intense and marked by changes,” said Friedrich. “We have experienced many ups and downs, whereby the positive moments clearly stand out for me”. There are projects for Friedrich that he has not been able to pursue in recent years. However, he does not have any concrete plans for the summer.
It is unfortunate that they have to accept Friedrich’s decision, stressed Hertha’s sporting director Fredi Bobic. “It’s no secret that the US is important to him and we’re working together to see how he can be of help to us there in the future.”
