Anyone who thinks that only the traditional Brabant sausage roll is awarded annually with a trophy is wrong. “We have to go along with the times,” thought the jury of the election for the tastiest Brabant sausage roll. That is why the prizes were awarded on Monday for the ‘Most Innovation Brabant sausage roll’ and the ‘tastiest Brabant Vegan sausage roll’.
The prize -winning sausage rolls consist of surprising combinations such as truffle and cheese and oyster mushroom and beans. “There is so much more than the traditional sausage roll,” says professional jury member Danny Jansen.
The truffle-sausage roll of Arne van Beek van Bakkerij van der Steen from Made is the ‘most innovative Brabant sausage roll 2025’. “I looked at what fits the trends of the moment and came out immediately on truffle. The meat filling of the sausage roll contains a truffle mixture, the dough contains truffle oil and the sausage roll is tucked with cheese that is infused with truffle,” says the proud winner.

Arne finished third in the battle for the tastiest Brabant sausage roll among MBO students last year. Now he can call himself the first winner ever of the most innovative Brabant sausage roll. The new categories within the election have been created since this year.
Home baker Theo van Vijfeiken from Nuenen has become second with his Van Gogh sausage roll. “There are sunflower seeds on the sausage roll, after the painting by Van Gogh. And the minced meat is very tasty,” says the baker. The braided sausage roll of MBO student Lulu Ye from the Summa College in Eindhoven has been awarded third place.
Other crazy combinations are the chicken stroganoff-sausage roll and the burger-sausage roll from Jill. “I first make dough balls. I thought it was a shame to roll them flat again. So that’s how I came up with the idea of pushing a ball of meat in it,” she says.
The jury is not only looking for an innovative sausage roll, but also for a vegan option. “Everyone knows the traditional sausage roll and they are delicious, but there is so much more,” says jury member Danny. “People who don’t eat meat should also be from one sausage broek Being able to enjoy, “he says.
“Be careful that the herbs are really vegan.”
Ron van de Mortel from JPM Bakery from Deurne takes care of that with his tastiest Brabant Vegan sausage roll 2025. “We have made the filling based on wheat, oyster mushrooms and lupine beans. The dough simply consists of flour, water and yeast. And then the herbs. They are important. You have to pay attention to the E-numbers. That those herbs are really vegan,” says the winner.

Lupine beans were a required ingredient in the vegan sausage roll. Lupine is a legume that is grown a lot in Brabant and is full of proteins. “It is a forgotten treasure from the region,” says the organization of the election. They want to emphasize the importance of regional and sustainable products.
Dennis Swaanen from Jan Swaanen The real baker from Hilvarenbeek was second with his vegan sausage roll. Home baker Jenny Vlemmings and Lucas Vermeulen van Bakker Deeg from Heusden took a shared third place with their meatless sausage roll.
“Vegan baking an extra challenge.”
Baking a vegan sausage roll is an extra challenge, according to Danny. “Animal products have a function, for example for the taste and bond. A vegan sausage roll must be just as juicy without these animal products.”
The all -decisive judgment is a relief on Monday evening for the participating bakers, because they had to wait a long time for the result. Due to a system error in the scoring, the award ceremony was postponed from April to June. The bakers hope that their winning sausage rolls will now be over the counter.
