Arminia’s Bielefeld toilets are upset after 0: 4 at Wehen Wiesbaden – DFB determined

0: 4 and fan anger in Wiesbaden

This article was first published on June 3 at 09:55 and has since been updated with more information.

Arminia Bielefeld’s captain Fabian Klos has expressed understanding for the violent reaction of his own fans after the 0: 4 debacle in the relegation first leg at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. “The fans are reacting to what this so-called team has brought to the pitch today,” said the 35-year-old club idol on the TV channel “Sky”. After the 0:4 Bielefeld fans threw firecrackers onto the pitch. Some supporters also tried to storm the field. The game was interrupted for 21 minutes.

“It’s incredibly difficult. Thank God nobody was hurt,” said a very emotional and battered Klos. The attacker, who has been playing for Arminia for twelve years, repeatedly tried to calm down the fans and influence them during the game.

Before the second leg in Bielefeld on Tuesday, Klos no longer believes that Arminia have a chance of staying up in the 2nd Bundesliga. “It’s done,” he said. “I can’t put myself in front of this team.” After the performance in the final spurt of the season, when Arminia was only able to save itself in the relegation, he had to “deny the character of the team. Good footballers don’t make a good team,” said Klos.

Update June 3, 5:09 p.m.: After the riots, the DFB control committee investigates the incidents. The German Football Association confirmed this to the dpa on Saturday. The Arminia is now threatened with a drastic punishment by the association. The Bielefeld team need not fear any consequences for the second leg on Tuesday (8.45 p.m.) due to the short time available.

Bielefeld’s coach Uwe Koschinat condemned the reaction of his own fans, but also expressed understanding. “There can be no two opinions that today was not okay. But we gave the reason,” he said on “Sky”. “People no longer have a tolerance limit to endure what we offered today or last week. They take on a lot and we failed completely for the second time today.” On the last regular match day of the 2nd division, Bielefeld missed the chance of staying up directly with a 4-0 loss at 1. FC Magdeburg.

Arminia’s managing director Christoph Wortmann sharply condemned the fans’ scandalous performance. “With all the frustration and disappointment I can understand, what happened here goes too far. We’re also talking about possible physical injuries,” said Wortmann on Friday evening after the 4-0 defeat. Similar to Klos and Koschinat, Wortmann saw the cause of the serious riots among the professionals. “I can only apologize to the fans for the performance of the team. You can’t approach a game like that,” he criticized the embarrassing performance.

After fan scandal: Wehen Wiesbaden’s Kauczinski doesn’t want a harsh punishment for Arminia Bielefeld

Despite the serious riots, SVWW trainer Markus Kauczinski has meanwhile spoken out against harsh punishment for East Westphalia. “I have no interest in an empty stadium. I don’t want a ghost game,” said the 53-year-old, looking ahead to the second leg next Tuesday. However, he called on those responsible at Arminia to work with the fans to ensure that the game was carried out safely. “A firecracker hit two meters from me. That was extremely dangerous. I have never experienced something like that. I was scared,” Wehen Wiesbaden striker Benedict Hollerbach said about the scandalous incidents.
