Thanks to Joker Janni Serra, Arminia Bielefeld has given up the red lantern of the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga – at least for one day.
The striker secured a 2-0 (0-0) win against FC St. Pauli and the jump to 16th place for the East Westphalians with a late brace.
On Sunday (1:30 p.m.), however, fellow relegated SpVgg Greuther Fürth and promoted 1. FC Magdeburg could pass again. Arminia stopped a series of four competitive bankruptcies three days after the 0: 6 pack in the DFB Cup at VfB Stuttgart.
St. Pauli only three points ahead of Bielefeld
Hamburg, who are weak away from home, are only three points ahead of Bielefeld and have not won in eleven games away from home. Serra, who came on as a substitute in the 60th minute, became the match winner with his goals (76th and 84th).
In front of 22,626 spectators, the hosts had great problems getting into the game. Little was achieved offensively before the break, St. Pauli had the best chance to take the lead: Marcel Hartel failed after a pass from Lukas Daschner at the excellent goalkeeper Martin Fraisl (19th).
After the change of sides, Bielefeld became more active and the game improved. But scoring chances were rare – until Serra came.
