Arminia Bielefeld fails against Hansa – KSC turns behind against Fürth

Fröde makes the decision

Without the sick coach Daniel Scherning, Arminia Bielefeld suffered another setback in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Bundesliga relegated team lost 1-0 (0-0) against Hansa Rostock with goalscorer Lukas Fröde and conceded their sixth defeat in their tenth home game of the season. But the winless series of Karlsruher SC came to an end against Fürth.

With bankruptcy this weekend, Arminia Bielefeld is threatened with falling back onto a relegation zone. Hansa, on the other hand, celebrated their first win after two 2-0 defeats in 2023 and initially moved towards midfield. Fröde scored the first goal of the year in the 51st minute, and a golden one at that. Hansa now has four away wins this season, only the top clubs from Hamburg, Darmstadt and Kaiserslautern have more. In addition, Rostock have not recorded more shots on goal in any away game this season.

According to the club, Bielefeld’s head coach Scherning was not on the bench “due to an urgent medical recommendation” due to a strong virus infection with pronounced cold symptoms. He was replaced by regular assistant coach Danilo de Souza. The 39-year-old Brazilian only followed Scherning, whom he had already worked for in Osnabrück, to Bielefeld in mid-January. He saw a poor performance from his team, with no ideas and little threat to score.

Karlsruher SC turns game against Fürth outnumbered and breathes a sigh of relief

After eight unsuccessful league games (nine with a cup), Karlsruher SC won 2-1 (1-1) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Friday evening. The guests took the lead thanks to an own goal by Tim Breithaupt (21st minute) before Marvin Wanitzek equalized with a man down (37th penalty). After the break, Mikkel Kaufmann turned the game in favor of KSC (73′).

In the table, Karlsruhe climbs to twelfth place and is thus directly behind the Fürth team, who suffered another setback after the 1-0 derby victory against 1. FC Nürnberg.

The hosts got off to a good start in front of 15,612 spectators. But after a free kick, Breithaupt headed the ball into his own goal for the second time this season. Only three minutes after the mishap his teammate Stephan Ambrosius saw the yellow-red card. The former HSV pupil had just returned from a yellow card suspension. KSC coach Christian Eichner reacted and took Breithaupt off the field. With a majority, the Fürth team didn’t allow much at first, but Wanitzek scored with a penalty. He also scored from the point in the 1-1 draw in the first leg.

The numerical superiority of the guests was hardly recognizable in the second round either. Ultimately, Kaufmann decided the game after a one-two with strike partner Fabian Schleusener. In the final phase of the KSC was lucky again. Lukas Petkov missed the point for the game association with a header at the post.
