Arminia Bielefeld and Koschinat go their separate ways

As expected, Arminia Bielefeld will not extend the contract with head coach Uwe Koschinat after being relegated to the third division.

As the DSC announced, the new sports director Michael Mutzel informed Koschinat of this decision on Friday. The contract of the 51-year-old would have been automatically extended if he stayed up.

Bielefeld, still in the first division in 2021/22, clearly failed in the relegation at third division third party SV Wehen Wiesbaden (0: 4, 1: 2). Koschinat was the third Arminen head coach of the messed-up season after Uli Forte and Daniel Scherning. It is still unclear who will take care of Bielefeld in the coming season.

“For our future orientation we will make a change in the coaching position,” explained Mutzel: “It speaks for him how professionally he took this decision today.” Koschinat was “grateful for the openness and directness in our conversation. Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve our sporting goals, that hurts me and everyone a lot.”
