Armed man who threatened police, shot and now dead

When officers arrived, the man became aggressive toward them. To such an extent that an officer felt threatened and fired a shot. Mayor Dirk De fauw: “The police were called by the victim’s mother. She said that he had left the house in an excited state with knives in his hand. In addition, there was a second report from someone who said that there was a man walking down the street with knives in his hand, a dangerous situation.”

The man was behaving aggressively when the police arrived on the scene. “The police officer urged the person concerned to put down the knives. He refused and became very aggressive towards the officer. He felt attacked and fired a shot. Whether that shot was justified, that will have to be investigated But I know that our police are trained enough that they will not pull out a weapon when it is not necessary.”

The man was seriously injured and was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries. He was already known for previous crimes by the police in Bruges, but never of such a nature as today. The public prosecutor’s office is investigating the case.
