Armed drug trafficking! Former SEK official sentenced to prison!

He used to hunt crooks as a police officer. On Monday he stood before the district court himself. The first time. At 74! Accusation: Armed trafficking in narcotics in no small amount (233 grams in total).

Fred G. (name changed) was with the SEK for twenty-one years. A job he loved. But it also made him ill (blast trauma, artificial hips…) He took early retirement. Wasn’t the lavish pension enough for him? Was he bored? Did he miss the thrill of retirement?

On November 15, 2021, drug investigators in the area of Kurfürstenstraße/Hochmeisterplatz (Halensee) noticed an elderly bald-headed man who often looked around conspicuously. Policeman Hendrik G. (30): “In front of Rewe, a gentleman greeted him and took out cash.” In return, the accused received a letter from a jute bag…

The investigators struck. Took 14 more scene letters and a smaller wooden stick hanging from his belt. The witness: “He offered no resistance. Was also cooperative in the subsequent search of the apartment.” Fred G. even pointed out to the “ex-colleagues” that there were more cocaine packets in the hall closet. And almost 150,000 euros in cash. But what he spent as private assets: “I saved the 500 and 5 notes over the years. As a hidden reserve.” Even the more than 7,000 euros that he had with him when he was arrested were not drug proceeds. “After shopping in the supermarket, I wanted to buy an e-bike and surprise my daughter with a second one. But that never happened.”

In order to make the fine more agreeable, he nevertheless agreed to the confiscation of almost 128,000 euros. As with the confiscation of the wooden stick as a weapon. That he was actually used to “roll off the damaged hands”. That, he admitted, could have been used to defend in difficult situations…

For so much insight and remorse, the court let the accused get off lightly: one year and eleven months probation. Just one more month – and the pension would have been gone!
