Arjen Lubach sees viewing figures drop: ‘Possibly due to Turkey earthquake’

Arjen Lubach sees the viewing figures of his daily evening show fall slightly. What is going on according to TV expert Tina Nijkamp? “It may be because of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.”

Every day it is by far the most watched program of the late evening: The Evening Show with Arjen Lubach. After being consistently above the million limit for a while, the presenter has been somewhat below it in recent days. Striking, says the country’s most famous viewing figure analyst Tina Nijkamp. What is she looking for behind this?

Arjen drops slightly

Arjen, for example, put down 916 thousand viewers (22 percent market share) on NPO 1 last night, a top score, but slightly lower than last week. “It has a linear 200 thousand viewers less than last Wednesday and scores below a million. So a lesser week for De Avondshow”, Tina concludes.

It may have to do with the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, says Tina. “It is possible that now with the disaster in Turkey and Syria, viewers feel less comfortable watching programs with a lot of satire.”

A lot of attention

There is a lot of attention on television for the disaster in Turkey and Syria, for which money can be donated via Giro 555. The most watched talk show of the evening was yesterday’s Today Inside, which attracted 735 thousand viewers (16 percent). This is followed by Op1 (720 thousand), Khalid & Sophie (600 thousand) and Jinek (530 thousand).

The ratings of Eva Jinek are a bit worrying, says Tina. “Yesterday’s 530,000 viewers is still just not good. Jinek is only in place 20 of the top 25 and is the fourth talk show in the Netherlands.”

Smartest on one

The big winner on prime time was of course again De Slimste Mens with 2.5 million viewers (42 percent) this time. Immediately afterwards, DNA Unknown held 1.2 million (24 percent).

The most watched alternatives were RTL 4’s Married At First Sight (827 thousand), SBS 6’s Today Inside, NPO 2’s Gort over de Grens (533 thousand) and FOX’s Feyenoord – NEC (445 thousand).
