Arjen Lubach has tackled the farmer politician Caroline van der Plas firmly in his popular Evening Show. The VPRO star compares her media attitude to vomiting on a baby.
Caroline van der Plas’s election campaign is not really going well. The forewoman of BBB is overshadowed by that other successful newcomer, Pieter Omtzigt, and she does not always have the right knowledge at hand. She was dealt a serious blow last night in the popular one Evening show from presenter Arjen Lubach.
A bit sloppy
Arjen sympathizes with Caroline. “The campaign is in full swing and that is bad news for Caroline van der Plas, because then she has to give interviews and she is not very good at that.”
Then he shows an interview from De Correspondent in which Caroline bumbles. Arjen: “A bit sloppy, but it is campaign time and you will soon get a second chance. It arrived this weekend The Telegraph. Here’s a nice photo. Striking: her office has more biodiversity than an average cow pasture, but okay.”
‘Google it’
According to critics, Caroline comes across as rather amateurish in that Telegraaf interview. She wants to spend billions, but the newspaper wants to know how she wants to pay for it. According to the newspaper, reducing the burden on healthcare does not yield nearly enough.
The politician then says: “Well, I can give you a few rules… I can look up that link for you. Henk, just google ‘administrative costs, healthcare, 22 billion or so.’”
Embarrassing interview
Arjen thinks this is really weak. “Henk, google ’embarrassing interview Caroline van der Plas, Telegraaf’. Ah, you already have it, right at the top. Okay fine. A bit of a painful interview. Then you can do two things: never bring it up again and hope no one reads it, or you act as if this fiasco was exactly the intention.”
Caroline herself speaks up X of an ‘interview without slickness, without answers pre-produced by spin doctor’. Arjen: “Caroline van der Plas is able to accidentally throw up on the baby during a maternity visit and then text the next day that it was very human and purely hers.”
‘She does this often’
Arjen finds it unbelievable that Caroline would be satisfied with this interview. “She does this often, that something didn’t go quite right and then she later tries to pretend that it was all the intention.”
Political reporter Peter Kee states in the talk show Op1 that Caroline is not at all happy with the Telegraaf interview. She would find it ‘silly’ of the journalist on duty, Wouter de Winther, that these kinds of passages ended up in the final piece.
