Tennis player Arianne Hartono (27) rises to her highest position ever in the world rankings thanks to her performance in the WTA tournament of Mumbai in India.
The professional player from Meppel, born in Groningen, lost in the semi-finals 5-7 and 4-6 to the Latvian Darja Semenistaja, number 121 in the world. However, reaching the semi-finals of the professional tournament worth 115,000 dollars gave Hartono enough points to rise from 153 to 143 in the WTA world rankings. She had never been this high before.
Doubles final
In the doubles match in Mumbai, Hartono, number 198 in the world doubles rankings, did reach the final. However, together with her Indian partner Thombare, she was just not a match for the Slovenian Dalilia Jakupovic and the American Sabrina Santamaria, two players who belong to the global top 100 in doubles. The score was 6-4 and 6-3 for Jakupovic and Santamaria.
