The Italian with the most medals at the Games was called up for the World Championships in mid-March in Rotterdam: she left after the Beijing Olympics accusing her teammates and the federation of boycotting her
The most important news of the Italian short track comes with the call-ups: Arianna Fontana, the most medal-winning Italian woman ever at the Olympics, returns to the national team for the first time since the Beijing 2022 Games. The occasion is the World Championships scheduled from 15th to March 17th in Holland, on the Rotterdam Ahoy track.
the reasons
—
The golden athlete of the Italian short track – eleven Olympic medals, including two gold in the 500 meters in Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022 – was far from the national team after accusations against her teammates and the Federation of not having put her in a position to train as best as possible and, indeed, boycotted her and even tried to make her fall. While waiting for the trial and for the sporting justice system to clarify the matter, the 33-year-old from Sondrio had decided not to participate in the national team trials any longer, after having even feared the possibility of competing with the USA in Milan-Cortina. In recent weeks she has been training in Montreal, Canada.
