Beau Is Afraid is the latest work from director Ari Aster (Midsommar) and his third collaboration with studio A24 (Everything Everywhere All At Once). The nightmare comedy hits theaters on May 11th. It is Aster’s heart project and is based on a screenplay that he has continuously developed since his time as a film student.
Joaquin Phoenix stars as the paranoid beau. Other cast members include Nathan Lane (The Producers), Amy Ryan (Only Murders in the Building), Parker Posey (The Staircase) and Patti LuPone (American Horror Story).
“Beau Is Afraid”: Synopsis
The plot of the film: “Beau is not well – his paranoia is making life difficult for him and the medication his therapist is prescribing is not a solution either. When Beau leaves to visit his mother, an epic odyssey begins as he confronts his past, present and future. In the end, Beau has to realize that in order to fulfill his dreams, he must overcome his darkest abysses.”
