More than 14,000 Argentinians residing in Israel will not be able to vote this Sunday in the presidential elections because the local State suspended the elections for not being able to guarantee the safety of voters and authorities in Tel Aviv. The same decision was made in Ukraine, where more than 200 Argentines were authorized to exercise their civic rights today in the Argentine embassy located in kyiv.
Until before the attack on Saturday, October 7 in Israel, where Hamas terrorist groups, across the Gaza Border, caused thousands of deaths and injuries, and kidnapped people in a large part of Israeli territory, in the Argentine consulate in Tel Aviv, A total of six tables had been set up so that more than 14,000 Argentines could vote today.
However, for obvious reasons, everything was canceled due to the danger currently experienced throughout the territory. This was anticipated by the National Electoral Chamber to Together for Change, when the party led by Patricia Bullrich consulted it about the appointment of polling station prosecutors in that country. The same decision was carried out in Ukraine, where everything was already ready for more than 200 voters. “In both cases it is due to the state of war in which these countries find themselves, as they cannot guarantee the security of the voters, diplomatic and consular authorities, since it will not allow the normal development of the electoral act,” were the words of the National Electoral Chamber.
Argentines residing abroad will be able to vote for president and vice president; and also for national positions such as deputies, senators and representatives of Parlasur. This act is carried out directly at the Argentine embassies in each country. It should be noted that abroad voting is done with a single ballot for the five candidates: Sergio Massa, Patricia Bullrich, Javier Milei, Juan Schiaretti and Myriam Bregman. And said suffrage is not mandatory for any person living outside Argentina.
According to figures from the Foreign Ministry, more than 451,200 Argentines in 137 diplomatic and consular representations in 86 countries are authorized to vote today, during local time from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. And if there is a runoff on November 19, they will vote in the same place as these general elections.
The countries where there are the most Argentines registered to vote are Spain with 114,825, the United States, 101,388; Italy, 23,797 and Brazil, 22,068. While the cities that will have the most tables to scrutinize are Madrid, Barcelona, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Miami and Rome.
