Argentina’s Angel Di María resigns from the national team after the Copa América

From June in the USA

World champion Ángel Di María from Benfica Lisbon has announced his retirement from the Argentine national team next year. “For me, these will be the last games with the national team,” said the 35-year-old offensive player in the radio program “Todo Pasa“. The Albiceleste would like to defend its title from 2021 in the USA from June – like the European Championship 2020, the date of the event was postponed due to the pandemic.

Di María has played 134 games for Argentina so far, scoring 29 goals and providing 29 assists. The long-time companion of record national player Lionel Messi – 178 appearances – made his debut for the three-time world champion in September 2008 after winning the Olympic gold medal under Alfio Basile. In addition to Messi, according to the current status, only Javier Mascherano (147 games) and Javier Zanetti (143) are ahead of Di María – both of whom have long since ended their careers.
