The Spandau-based Mosaic Association gives work to 270 people with disabilities. The site is now up for sale. A comment from BZ editor Andreas Vollbrechtshausen.
The social participation of people with disabilities is talked about happily and cheaply. Often in Sunday speeches. But as soon as money is involved, social aspects quickly take a back seat.
So now happened in Spandau. At the Askanierring, the association puts 270 people with disabilities in work. That could soon be over.
Because the area is being sold. Highest bidder, that goes without saying.
The state of Berlin could have intervened in the deal and exercised its right of first refusal – for the benefit of those affected. Too bad a missed opportunity.
But a little hope remains. Because the lease runs until 2031. In these nine years, the new owner and Mosaic could perhaps find an amicable solution that is fair to everyone. So that inclusion does not remain just lip service.
