A spokeswoman for the government warned the Icelandic radio station RÚV that there was still a lot of smoke development and that people had become ill. On Monday afternoon, the volcano began erupting near Mount Litli-Hrútur. That mountain is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwest of the capital. It is the third eruption in the region in two and a half years. As in 2021 and 2022, the government had initially opened the volcano area to volcano enthusiasts and hikers. They had warned of the dangers.
