The more we (electrically) cycle, the more cycling accidents. Seems like a sad logic, but it is striking: half of the cycling deaths of 2021 were older than 65 years and four in ten drove electrically. Can those numbers be prevented? “Sometimes the bicycle rides with them, instead of the other way around,” says Jul Cypers (73), electric bicycle teacher at senior citizens’ association OKRA. So how do you drive safely with an e-bike?
