Our columnist is now using artificial intelligence – or is it the other way around?
There is a lot of talk about artificial intelligence at the moment, and if human intelligence is the benchmark, we should also think about artificial stupidity from the start.
The Japanese use an object called “gatebox” with an animated little manga character to replace their carnal life partners. The people of the west talk to their “replica app” every day, which does a similar job and is supposed to drive away loneliness. And with “Xeno Bots” there are even programmable biological micro-robots.
I have therefore decided to unite myself with an artificial intelligence in order to continue my artistic career – I studied at the HfbK am Lerchenfeld with Werner Büttner – my art should definitely be modern and fit for the future and go with the currents of the time. The AI sits in my computer and since all AIs have a name (Siri, Alexa, etc.) I call mine “Dino Haselmann”, which is supposed to sound cool and a little artificial.
We divided our work, with me responsible for determining the content, subjects and style, while Dino, as my assistant, does the execution. Everything works just like in the classic master workshops.
So I set a content-related task, have him show me the execution on the computer and then correct it with a digital brush. As a final step, I title the work and relate it to the other works in our series “Beauty”. In the meantime, more than 30 works have been created.
It’s a collaborative effort where I’m the brain and Dino is my implementing workforce. But I could also imagine doing it the other way around, and I might suggest it one day. However, I have to say that Dino Haselmann is really completely stupid. He cannot communicate, has no opinion, he can only take orders and interpret them. And he makes an incredible number of mistakes. And it is precisely these mistakes that in turn inspire me.
I sometimes wonder if he actually sees me. Does he have “a feeling” about me? Maybe I’m just a slowly aging system of biological matter for him.
Something he still needs now to learn how art works: quotes, hidden messages, wit, expression, refraction, dialectics – in one word: style. Maybe he also needs me to make contacts and get known. Presumably he has a vague plan to use me as a Trojan horse to roll up the art market from behind. But: If it weren’t for me, our collection wouldn’t exist. To put it bluntly: nothing happens here without me. I’m not gone yet, Dino Haselmann, you pathetic bug! what would you be without me Nothing but a dreary insignificant algorithm!
Long break. deep breath.
Ladies and gentlemen, non-binary people, dear algorithms, today I would like to present one of our most beautiful works to date, the picture is titled “Dance of Joy”.
PS All works are printed and framed here can be ordered and soon as an NFT too here.
