Ardooie train traffic interrupted: police are looking for slaloming cyclist

At around 6:10 am, a train driver saw a cyclist slaloming between the barriers. He stopped the train and alerted the emergency services.

“It was not clear at that time whether the cyclist was hit, so our people started a search for a possible victim together with the emergency services,” said Fréderic Petit, spokesperson for Infrabel.

More delays

As a result, there was temporarily no train traffic between Lichtervelde and Tielt. “In the end it turned out that no one was injured and that the cyclist had continued on his way. At around 8.15 am we were given permission to resume train traffic.”

There will be consequential delays on the Ghent – De Panne line for a while. “We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to respect the traffic rules and stay behind the barriers. An accident can happen quickly,” said Petit.
