Presentation at Real Madrid
The Turkish top talent Arda Güler ruled out a loan at his presentation at Real Madrid. The 18-year-old, who left Fenerbahce after more than four years, also spoke about his rejection of FC Barcelona, his role models, including Mesut Özil, and his extremely ambitious goals.
“I want to become a legend of this club. It’s an honor for me,” said the four-time Turkish international, who signed a contract with the Spanish record champions until 2029, right at the beginning of his presentation (quoted via “real total“). His idols also match his standards. “Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil, Zinédine Zidane, Guti – I always had them in my head. I want to be like them, a legend of this club and part of history.”
Özil still knows Güler from times together at Fenerbahce, even if only one game in which both were on the pitch is recorded. Before making his decision, he also sought contact with the 2014 world champion, who has since retired. “He told me it’s the most important club in the world. We have a brotherly relationship. He spoke very well of the club and gave me very good advice.”
He also spoke to head coach Carlo Ancelotti “a few times” before agreeing to the “royal”. “The coach called me and said he wanted me. I respect the coach a lot,” said Güler, for whom it was “emotionally very difficult” to leave Fenerbahce. “But when the best club in the world calls you and the club you love can make money from it too… You’ll understand me.”

Güler is likely to become Fenerbahce’s most expensive sale in club history
Güler is likely to become the most expensive sale in the club’s history at Fenerbahce. According to the Istanbul club’s official figures, the fee is set at €20m, which just surpasses the transfers of Vedat Muriqi in 2019 and Elvir Baljic in 1999. However, due to bonuses, up to 30 million euros would be possible. In addition, Fenerbahce secured a resale participation of 20 percent.
The youngster would have been cheaper because his release clause was €17.5m. But according to reports, Güler insisted in talks with Real boss Florentino Pérez that his club should bring more money. The “Royal” followed suit and outperformed FC Barcelona and AC Milan. Both clubs were also associated with Güler until recently.
Los Blancos were awarded the contract. “A lot of clubs wanted me. But Real Madrid was my choice, my preference. I want to use all my talent and potential at Real Madrid. There were many clubs and we were in contact with a few. But when Real Madrid came out and told me I could play here, the rest of the offers lost value for me,” the midfielder explained his decision-making process.

If Real Madrid give me the chance to play, I’ll take it. Going somewhere else on loan is not my plan. I was offered to play here and I will do that. I don’t want to play for another club,” emphasized Güler, who is the fourth new signing this summer after Jude Bellingham, Fran García and Joselu. Real’s expenses rose to 128.5 million euros – only Tottenham Hotspur has invested more money in additions with 136.3 million euros.
