Arch rivals SV Huizen and Zuidvogels: old-timers are repeating the championship battle

The summer break has been going on for a while, but in Huizen they still have to recover from the seasonal denouement. Football club SV Huizen beat arch rival and neighbors Zuidvogels and became champion. In the summer program ‘The Soul of the Region’, two members of the first hour compete against each other one more time.

Both clubs were founded in 1928, although Huizen is only one month older. Both clubs are located in the Wolfskamer sports park and have been competing with each other for years in the former fishing village.

Denouement

On Saturday 28 May, this competition reached a climax once again. Then both teams were able to win the championship of the first division, as it was a neck-and-neck race between the two clubs.

On the local radio show NH Throw the Lunch Club regional historian and SV Huizen supporter Klaas Vos looked ahead to the match. When they entered the final phase it was 2-0 for the Zuidvogels, but in the end SV Huizen managed to bend the final score to 2-4.

Redo Championship

Two months later, two members of the first moment compete against each other in a friendly competition ‘nerve spiral’. With this they do the championship battle again thinly.

Gert van der Roest is a board member of SV Huizen and has been a member of the club for 52 years. “The most successful club in Huizen and the surrounding area”, he says defiantly. Gerard Bout has to laugh really hard about that. He has been a member of Zuidvogels for 55 years and has fulfilled many roles in that time.

Fortunately, it is not all hatred and envy. The clubs are increasingly working together. They also have a joint women’s football department. “But that won’t happen so quickly with the men,” says Bout.
