Arcade Fire have announced the next single from their upcoming sixth studio album WE. It is titled Unconditional I (Lookout Kid).

In a video posted to Instagram, singer Win Butler puts the vinyl on a turntable. As the disc spins, he can be heard saying, “The first single was…” before the musician plays the first two releases, “Lightning I, II.” Then he announces the third preliminary piece with the words “… next single is”. A slow strumming song plays, beginning with the lyrics “Lookout kid trust your heart / you don’t have to play the part”. The post was provided with the word “Lookout” – in German “to look out”.

The song has already been played live for Ukraine

The teased song was played during the encore of the Canadian band’s recent benefit concert in New York. The band raised more than $100,000 for victims of the war in Ukraine during their concerts at the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan. At the last concert, Arcade Fire shared the stage with former Talking Heads leader David Byrne and sang the peace anthem “Give Peace A Chance”.

The Butler brothers go their separate ways

In March, Will Butler, Win’s younger brother, announced that he was leaving the group after nearly two decades of band membership. “There hasn’t been an acute reason other than that I’ve changed – and the band has changed – in the last almost 20 years,” he said in a statement, adding that it was “time for new things.” WE is the final recording he was a part of and will be released on May 6th via Columbia.
