Aprilia, presented the RS-GP for the 2022 MotoGP

A small bike for big ambitions. Aprilia shows the world the livery and official shapes of its RS-GP, the bike with which the Noale manufacturer will face the 2022 MotoGP world championship with renewed and expanded ambitions. On the 30th anniversary of the first world title, with Alex Gramigni, the Italian brand gains the status of Team Factory, a further step forward in a path of growth, whose parable is testified by last year’s podium at Silverstone, a result never achieved before by the ‘Aprilia in MotoGP, from eighth place in the standings of Alex Espargaro, and the excellent chronometric results of the recent Sepang tests, with the confirmed pair of official riders, Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, respectively 1st and 2nd in the ranking of the former day, and then 2nd and 5th in the second session.

Riding the new RS-GP, a small bike with great potential, improved handling and stability when entering corners and already very popular with riders, is the same couple as last year, Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, to whom joins test rider and wild card Lorenzo Savadori. “After so many years together, mine are not just simple mechanics and technicians, but they are really part of my family – says Aleix Espargaro -. I am very energized, the years pass, but I still have the same hunger as when I started: for the first tests I chose a helmet with graphics dedicated to all the first Aprilia podiums in the various categories, including the one together with Silverstone. His partner, Maverick Vinales is expected to have an important season, in which he can consistently show his worth without the many ups and downs of mood that characterized the previous seasons. “From the first moment in this team I understood that I was chosen for a purpose, to take Aprilia to the top in MotoGP and it is the goal we are all working towards – says Vinales -. We had the great opportunity to get to know each other in advance, competing in some race together and starting to understand each other’s needs and we will have to be good at exploiting this advantage in our favor: I am very satisfied with the work done by the racing department during the winter and now we just have to show our progress on the track by working at our best ” .

Big ambitions obviously for Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing: “It is an important season, we enter MotoGP as a Factory Team on the thirtieth anniversary of the first Aprilia title in the World Championship, with Alex Gramigni: it is a responsibility but also an injection of extra stimuli – he says Rivola -. Today the racing department is a group of great skills, close-knit and with a strong Italian imprint of which we are proud: we are working well, we saw last year but it must only be the starting point from which to look forward. In my opinion, the RS-GP 2022 will be the most beautiful bike on the grid and I hope it will also be among the fastest.I think we have done an important job, convinced of the path we have taken. We have three riders of absolute level: the “captain” Aleix, a great champion like Maverick who we discover day after day and Lorenzo Savadori who, despite a season conditioned by injuries, has shown an important growth ”.

Romano Albesiano, the father of the RS-GP in his role as technical director of Noale explains the main innovations: “The RS-GP 2022 is a very profound evolution of the excellent base of 2021: the engine features profound internal innovations while maintaining the aerodynamics is constantly evolving, while the chassis and software have been revised with the aim of improving braking, acceleration and starting strategy. We have three riders with very different characteristics, both physical and driving style and this allows us to develop a bike that is effective in a wider range of needs. In recent years we have seen a great leveling up of performance, including ours, so we have been particularly busy during the winter break, but I am convinced that we will have good cards to play in the 2022 championship “.
