Dick Heederik will become chairman of the advisory committee List of Occupational Diseases. The advisory committee will advise the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment on a scientific basis on amendments to the List of occupational diseases caused by exposure to hazardous substances at work. This list is part of the Substance-Related Occupational Diseases Compensation Scheme (TSB scheme), which offers compensation to people who have become ill as a result of working with a hazardous substance. This regulation will enter into force on 1 January 2023 with the three occupational diseases that are now on the List of occupational diseases: lung cancer due to asbestos, allergic occupational asthma and chronic solvent induced encephalopathy (CSE), also known as painter’s disease. The list will be further expanded in the coming years.
The members of this advisory committee are appointed for three years and are closely involved in the national expertise center for substance-related occupational diseases (Lexces), which was established on 1 July 2022. The Lexces bundles knowledge and expertise in the field of hazardous substances and health risks for workers. In doing so, they contribute to the prevention and assessment of occupational diseases. The ultimate goal is a future in which people will no longer become ill from substances they are exposed to at work. The Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of the chairman and the other members of the committee.
