Prof. Dr. Josette Dijkhuizen and Dr. Fabian Dekker are appointed Crown Members of the Social-Economic Council (SER). The Council of Ministers has approved the proposal of Minister Van Gennip of Social Affairs and Employment. The two new crown members have expertise in the field of self-employment.

In recent decades, the number of self-employed people on the Dutch labor market has increased considerably, and the government believes it is important that this translates into adequate representation within the SER. Earlier this autumn, seats on the entrepreneurs’ side and on the employees’ side were already filled with seats for the self-employed. And with these new appointments, the representation of self-employed people has been strengthened. In total, there are 7 seats on the council (36 seats) for self-employed persons, of which 3 are alternate members.

The appointments of Prof. Josette Dijkhuizen, as crown member, and Dr. Fabian Dekker, as deputy crown member, are valid until April 1, 2024, after which reappointment is possible.

Josette Dijkhuizen (1969) is professor by special appointment of sustainable employability at Tilburg University.

Fabian Dekker (1978) is a senior labor market researcher at SEOR, a research agency affiliated with Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The SER is the most important advisory council for government and parliament on socio-economic issues. The council consists of two-thirds members of employers’ and employees’ organizations and one-third of members appointed by the Crown.
