Mr. CA (Carsten) Herstel becomes Director General of Long-Term Care at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. The Council of Ministers has approved the proposal of Minister De Jonge of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The appointment takes effect on February 1, 2024.
Carsten Herstel has been Director General of Social Security and Integration at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment since June 2019. Previously, he was Director of Sanctions and Youth, as well as Deputy (and partly acting) Director-General of Police, Punishment and Protection at the Ministry of Justice and Security. He previously held various positions at the Custodial Institutions Agency, including general director of the Netherlands Institute for Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology. Carsten Herstel studied Dutch Law at the University of Groningen.
This appointment was made through the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
