Appointment of chairman of Gaming Authority | News item

The Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of Mr. MCJ (Michel) Groothuizen as chairman of the Gaming Authority. Groothuizen will succeed René Jansen in this position. The appointment takes effect on July 1, 2024. Groothuizen currently works as Deputy Director General at the Judicial Institutions Service.

The Gaming Authority is the independent regulator of the Gaming market. Its tasks consist of regulating the gaming market by granting licenses to gaming providers and monitoring compliance with gaming legislation. If necessary, it will take enforcement action in the event of violations of the law. In addition, the Gaming Authority has a task in promoting addiction prevention, providing education and information and managing the Cruks exclusion register. The Gaming Authority also advises the Minister for Legal Protection, solicited and unsolicited, on gambling policy.
