Marko Hekkert will be the new director of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of Minister Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The appointment will take effect on January 1, 2023.
The four major themes in the area of the living environment are climate change and energy transition; making the economy circular; agriculture, nature and food in transformation; and city and region in development. In recent years, PBL has worked hard on task-driven working, tackling issues in a coherent manner and strengthening cooperation between the substantive sectors. The director directs and directs the above-mentioned substantive and methodological developments and choices.
Marko Hekkert is currently professor of Dynamics of Innovation Systems at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development of Utrecht University. He previously held various management and supervisory positions within and outside Utrecht University. He obtained a master’s degree in Chemistry and his PhD at Utrecht University.
This appointment was made on the basis of the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
