Dr. ir . AMC (Afke) van Rijn will become Director-General for Environment and International Affairs at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of Minister Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The appointment will take effect on 1 February 2023.
Afke van Rijn has been deputy director-general COVID-19 at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport since April 2021. Before that, she held the positions of Director of Media and Creative Industry and also Deputy Director-General and Coordinating Director of Equal Opportunities in Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Previously, she was director of Society & Integration at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment and director of Security and Governance at the Ministry of Security and Justice.
Afke van Rijn studied Computer Science at Delft University of Technology.
This appointment was made on the basis of the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
