HidrateSpark sells water bottles in the Apple store
A drinking bottle is now also available in the Apple online shop. According to the product description, the HidrateSpark STEEL is a vacuum-insulated stainless steel bottle in which drinks should stay cool for up to 24 hours. The bottle was manufactured by the third-party HidrateSpark and holds 620 milliliters. The gadget is available in black and silver.
However, the HidrateSpark STEEL is not just a simple container to keep drinks cool and fresh. Instead, the drinking bottle itself contains technical functions such as an LED sensor puck that lights up to remind the user to drink. It also tracks water intake by syncing via Bluetooth via the HidrateSpark app. The offer includes both a normal lid and a drinking straw lid. The HidrateSpark STEEL also calculates and constantly adjusts your personal fluid target throughout the day.
Condition via Apple Health
The sensor puck measures how many millimeters the user drinks. The result is recorded via the app on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The free HidrateSpark app can be synchronized with the HidrateSpark STEEL. In addition, users must use Apple’s health app Apple Health. After creating a user account, you can access personal information via Apple Health and, for example, set an individual fluid goal such as the daily amount you drink. The bottle measures actual hydration and the app sends that information back to Apple Health. In Apple Health, the saved data can be manually adjusted later and supplemented with the amount of water drunk from containers other than the HidrateSpark STEEL bottle. Your own water intake can also be tracked on the Apple Watch.
Lighting is reminiscent of liquid intake
At the bottom of the drinking bottle is a ring that lights up to remind the user to drink regularly throughout the day. Light pattern and color can be customized. The technology is powered by a rechargeable battery, for which a fast charging cable is supplied. A beak cover including locking is designed to keep dirt and germs out and prevent spills. The package also contains a carrying strap and two lids, one of which was designed for use with drinking straws. Bottle and lid can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
Value for money is under criticism
TECHBOOK take a critical view of the new gadget and regard the price of 85 euros as “excessive”. It is pointed out that stainless steel bottles for cooling drinks can be bought for less than ten euros. Customers would mainly pay for the data function and Apple label and Apple online store. According to TECHBOOK, the investment could theoretically make sense for people with chronic diseases who have to pay attention to the amount they drink every day. But there are cheaper alternatives here too.
