At very short notice, Apple announced a keynote called “Scary Fast”. Various new products were presented here. TECHBOOK reveals what Apple fans can look forward to and what new products have been presented.

The Apple keynote “Scary Fast” took place on the night of October 30th to 31st. The Cupertino company presented new MacBooks, iMac models and processors – in just 30 minutes. The event could be followed via stream.

The new M3 chips at a glance

At the beginning of the stream the new processors were presented. There are three chips: M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max. Apple promises that they are almost 50 percent faster than the previous processors. The new chips are manufactured using 3-nanometer technology. The biggest improvement would be in the GPU, according to Apple. The new graphics architecture supports a new type of memory allocation that Apple calls “Dynamic Caching”. This means that fixed memory is no longer used, but only as much memory as is required for a task. There is also mesh shading and ray tracing for better details in the images.

The M3 chip is equipped with an 8-core and 10-core CPU. The M3 Pro chip comes with slightly better capacities and has a 12-core and 18-core CPU. There is also the flagship chip M3 Max, which has a 16-core and 40-core CPU and a RAM of at least 36 GB.

MacBook Pro: Faster and with more storage

New MacBook Pros were also presented at Apple’s October keynote. These are a 14-inch and 16-inch laptop. First, the “entry-level model” in detail: The 14-inch device is equipped with the M3 chip and is said to be around 60 percent faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 chip. You can choose between a model with 512 GB of storage or a 1 TB storage.

A 14-inch and 16-inch device also comes with M3 Pro chips. They are said to be almost 40 percent faster than the MacBook Pros with an M1 Pro chip. With this processor, even complex and cumbersome work can be done effortlessly and quickly, according to the advertising promise. Here, too, there are some differences in terms of memory. Devices with 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage are possible.

Last but not least, new MacBook Pro models with an M3 Pro Max chip were introduced. Here too you can choose between a 14-inch and 16-inch model. The RAM starts at 36 GB and the storage at 1 TB.

In terms of design, they don’t differ too much from the previous models. In addition to the silver devices, there are now also black laptops. There have also been major improvements in the specifications. M3 chips are installed in all of them and the minimum memory is 512 GB, while some of the previous Pro models were listed with 256 GB. The new MacBook Pros with M3 and M3 Pro will be available from November 7th. The models with M3 Pro Max should be available later. However, you can pre-order them now.

iMac with M3 chip

An all-in-one computer was also presented during the Apple keynote “Scary Fast”. This is a 24-inch iMac with a 4.5K Retina display. Basically, its design is similar to the iMac with M1 released in 2021. There were only some adjustments and improvements in the specifications and colors.

In the future it will come with an M3 chip as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. RAM starts at 8GB and internal storage at 256GB. Both can be expanded for an additional charge. You can also choose between seven colors (green, yellow, orange, rose, violet, blue, silver).

TECHBOOK means

“Apple quickly introduced new MacBooks, chips and an iMac. All in all, these are very functional and powerful devices or processors. The M3 chip family upgrades both the new MacBook Pros and the iMac. In addition, the storage capacities have been expanded. But the prices could put some people off. The cheapest iMac variant starts at 1599 euros. If you want more connections or interfaces, you have to pay over 200 more. The MacBook Pros are not bargains either. The cheapest option starts at 1999 euros.” – Isa Kabakci, editor
