• New iPhone generation in the starting blocks
• Additional features for Apple Watch
• Software updates will also follow in autumn
Apple’s fall keynote already on September 7th
On September 7th it should be that time again: As every year, Apple announces the latest iPhone generation in autumn. After rumors about the date were already circulating, the iGroup confirmed the date. On the agenda are therefore again some technical innovations. Not only should the iPhone 14 and the premium version iPhone 14 Pro be announced, the new Apple Watch Series 8 should also be in the starting blocks.
iPhone 14 with better camera
Visually, the iPhone 14 should hardly differ from its predecessor, the iPhone 13. The standard version is to be delivered with a 6.1-inch display. The A 15 chip, which is already used in the iPhone 13, is to be used again here. However, Apple has screwed on the camera performance, as the report says.
While a mini version of the iPhone 13 was presented last year, which was characterized by a 5.4-inch display, the smaller version is apparently no longer renewed. The iPhone 14 in the Max version should be offered with a 6.7-inch screen – the first time that Apple has equipped a non-Pro model with the larger display.
“Notch” has to give way to the iPhone 14 Pro
Even if the innovations in the standard iPhone of the new generation should be limited, the tech group based in Cupertino, California has thought about a lot for the Pro series, according to Bloomberg. The camera cut-out in the display, also called “notch”, which was introduced for the first time on the iPhone X, is now to be reduced. A pill-shaped hole should contain the Face ID sensor, a round recess the camera. Even if Apple also wants to install the A15 chip from the 13 model in the standard iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro should get a chip upgrade. This could be called “A16”, but this has not yet been confirmed by Apple.
The group is also improving the camera performance of the Pro models: the new premium iPhones are said to have a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a telephoto lens. Previously, the regular wide-angle camera was only 12 megapixels. In addition to the regular Pro version with a 6.1-inch display, Apple again wants to offer an iPhone Pro Max with a screen size of 6.7 inches.
New health features for Apple Watch Series 8
The new Apple Watch of the eighth generation should hardly differ visually from the previous model Series 7, but have some new functions. For example, a body temperature sensor should be installed, and the smartwatch should now also have other health functions for women. In the run-up it was already rumored that one’s own fertility could be checked with the help of the wearable.
In addition, Apple also wants to equip its fitness watch with a Pro model, as the insider report goes on to say. The rugged version of the popular watch is aimed at particularly sporty users and is characterized by a larger display, a robust titanium case and a longer battery life. New fitness tracking functions are also to be offered. The Apple Watch SE, currently the cheapest variant of the iGroup smartwatch, could also receive a chip upgrade.
Software updates for Apple devices in the pipeline
Also in September, some of the new operating system versions for Apple devices, which were announced at the Group’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in the spring, are to be rolled out. All iPhone models from the iPhone 8 released in 2017 will receive in September iOS 16, as Apple promises. Meanwhile, owners of every variant of the Apple Watch from the fourth generation, and thus also the previous Apple Watch SE, can look forward to watchOS 9. The now spun-off iPadOS will then be released in October for all iPad Pro models, iPad Air 3rd gen and up, regular iPad 5th gen and up, and iPad mini 5th gen and up. macOS Ventura ships in the same month to 2017-later iMacs, iMac Pros, MacBooks, and MacBook Pros, 2018-later Mac minis and MacBook Airs, 2019-later Mac Pros, and 2022-later Mac Studios.
New iPads and Macs still in 2022
According to Bloomberg, a cheap entry-level iPad with the A14 chip and a USB-C port, as well as new iPad Pro models with M2 chips, will be launched later in the year. Before the end of the year, Apple also wants to expand its Mac portfolio with a new Mac mini and a new MacBook Pro.
The new iPhone generation is usually presented in the first month of autumn. In the first Corona year 2020, however, Apple was exceptionally unable to stay true to this trend because delivery delays caused by the pandemic also delayed the development of the new devices. According to Bloomberg, delivery is possible from September 16th.
