• Apple files a patent for a car sunroof
• The transparency of the sunroof can be individually adjusted
• The self-driving Apple Car is rumored to be on the market in 2025
The US company Apple has patented several inventions in the past. These were primarily new features for Macs or iPads. At the beginning of February 2022, the United States Patent Office granted the IT group a patent that does not match the classic Apple products. This is a sunroof for cars.
Functions of the sunroof
In addition to the automatic sliding function, the sunroof also offers the option of changing the transparency of the glass. This allows the light transmission of the material to be individually adjusted to the needs of the driver. The roof can also be fully opened. It should also be possible to open and close the windows at the same time as the roof. A corresponding patent document is available to interested parties on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website (uspto.gov).
Rumors about the Apple Car are confirmed
The 9to5mac website sees the new patent as confirmation of the rumors surrounding Apple’s own vehicle. The website reported on Apple’s activities in the mobility business at the end of January 2021. The company is developing and testing a new system for self-driving cars. For the tests taking place in the US state of California, Apple has also increased the number of its drivers.
In late November 2021, the news site Bloomberg, citing an internal source, reported a timeline for the completion of the Apple Car that was unofficially made public. According to the plan, the self-driving Apple Car will be launched in 2025. According to the inside source, the car will feature “lounge-like seating” for passengers and a touchscreen infotainment system. The steering wheel and pedals, on the other hand, should not be provided. However, the company has not officially confirmed the rumors in a press release.
