Appeal filed after Blatter and Platini were acquitted

The Swiss Attorney General has filed an appeal against former football officials Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini following their acquittal in fraud proceedings. She shared this on request.

Initially, however, she only achieved that the court had to justify its verbal judgment of July 8th in writing. “The judgment to be justified in writing by the court as a result of the appeal application will be the basis for the examination of the further action of the federal prosecutor,” said the prosecution authority.

Investigations began seven years ago against former FIFA President Blatter (86) and former UEFA boss Platini (67) because of a dubious payment in the millions that Blatter approved for Platini in 2011 on behalf of FIFA.

It was about two million francs (today around two million euros). According to the two, it was about outstanding payments from an oral agreement on Platini’s consulting work. The federal prosecutor saw no legal basis for the payment. The Federal Criminal Court decided “in dubio pro reo” – in case of doubt for the accused, as the presiding judge said on July 8th. Both were acquitted.
